Assistant Buyer required for Newport based Engineering and Services company

Reporting under the Indirect Category, this person will contribute towards the achievement of defined procurement strategies, supporting sourcing events both in line with the sourcing plan and ad-hoc sourcing requirements as required by the business. He/she will also be involved with non-strategic procurement initiatives in order to improve the overall performance of the procurement function.

The individual will support the contract management process that will enable the business to maximise the value obtained from its supplier relationships. They will also support day to day procurement and contract management issues, being recognised as a key point of contact for resolution of supplier performance issues where appropriate, and new procurement initiatives on designated contracts.

Responsibilities include supporting the Senior Buyers and/or leading in larger sourcing events as well as leading smaller sourcing events. This will include but not be limited to:
  • Data collection and preparation
  • Supplying market analysis and benchmarking
  • Stakeholder identification and management
  • Create detailed specifications relating to Sourcing activity
  • Creation of ITTs and RFQs
  • Effective and efficient utilisation of the E-Procurement Solution
  • Post tender analysis and recommendations
  • Contribute and Lead Supplier Negotiations
  • Development of award recommendations
  • Drafting Contract Award Papers
  • Implementing new Suppliers/Processes following Contract Awards.
  • Act as the first point of contact for both suppliers and business stakeholders to help resolve sourcing and contract queries.
  • Maintain the category Approved Vendor List to ensure the optimum number of suitably competent and fully accredited suppliers are available for use by the business to allow them to comply with Procurement Policy
  • Ensuring ongoing business stakeholder compliance with procurement policy, procedures and processes and assisting in the development and implementation of any new policy, procedures and processes.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and performance improvement of the Procurement Team through the active participation in both current and future development projects.
  • Ensuring efficient and accurate administration and maintenance of records, files and associated systems (including Vendor Master and Framework Order creation). Maintaining appropriate electronic and hard copy document records of contracts and related contractual documentation.
You will be a focused self-starter who takes ownership and responsibility for delivering against performance objectives, with an ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels within the business. You will boast good written communication skills, excellent analytical and organisational skills and a proven ability to prioritise own workload and multi-task.
